Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 July 2024 Outline:
Prayer is the powerline of our existence. What are the components of prayer in v.1 and for whom should prayers be offered? Our prayer is not only for those in authority and for those we love, but even for our enemies. Our God desires the salvation of everyone, hence our prayer for all. It is worth noting that the godless and cruel Roman Emperor, Nero, was in power at this time, yet Paul urged the Church to pray for him. What will be the result of our prayers (vs.2,4) and how are we to pray (v.8)? Lack of peace in our nation, will hinder proclamation of the gospel.
Note that Paul was not here forbidding women to wear beautiful dress, jewellery, and good hairstyle. The key word here is modesty/moderation, warning against too much attachment to things at the expense of pleasing God. The same principle applies to men too.
The status of women in society varies in different cultures but has been changing with time. Most cultures have now evolved to a stage where anyone can teach and disciple others, whatever their gender. We are all created in God’s image and now have access to good education. Paul, for example, attested to Priscilla’s teaching ministry (see Acts 18:18, 24-26; Romans 16:3-5a).

Pray for leaders in Africa. Also thank God for the ministry of godly women in your church and nation.
